“Take a glimpse of A Clockwork Orange on the 95th Birth Anniversary of legendary Anthony Burgess”

Only the best achievements are supposed to be recollected on a person’s birthday. So, here we are going to have recollection of the best of all the books compiled by Anthony Burgess on his Birth Anniversary. Known as a prolific author, the veteran Anthony Burgess had also been successful as a playwright, composer, linguist, translator and critic. He is being acknowledged to have authored a number of bestsellers. But, of all the books that he was acclaimed for the most popular being the “A Clockwork Orange”.

Some of his other bestsellers are The Wanting Seed, Earthly Powers, Shakespeare, One Hand Clapping: A Novel, A Dead Man in Deptford, Cyrano de Bergerac, The Doctor Is Sick, etc.

A Clockwork Orange is counted in the list of the complex and controversial novels. First published in 1962, this book is dystopian satire, exploring the nature of the excellent and evil, and the value of choice. The story moves around the protagonist, a 15 year old lad Alex who is trapped in the web of crime, cruelty, and haste. After being betrayed by his co-conspirator, he is sent to prison where he volunteers for rehabilitation program. Then his life is reduced only to suffer the consequences of his crashed and burned lifestyle.

Though this book has earned high criticism because of the violence that the story holds, I consider it to be a fabulous novel. Initially, readers would find it difficult to understand because of the slang dialect. But, those who have firm grip on informal English and would be able to grasp a few pages into the book must enjoy reading it.

All in all, A Clockwork Orange is truly a master piece that is as applicable today as it was in the year of its first publication. People still find it relatable for different reasons. We should be thankful to Anthony Burgess for presenting us such a wonderful epic.
